During the 18 years that RBS Technologies, Inc. has provided consulting services to the flexible packaging, converting and labeling industries and their suppliers, the company has successfully completed many challenging assignments for its North American and overseas clients.
Management and Marketing
Business Development
A U.S. converter of gummed papers, release products and foil
laminations had excess manufacturing capacity due to declining
markets for its traditional products. We analyzed the client's
facilities and capabilities, researched alternate products and
markets for those products, and developed a comprehensive plan
for participation in the new markets.
Market Research and Analysis
A Swiss manufacturer of narrow web printing presses wanted to
improve their penetration into the U.S. in-mold label market.
We researched the market and advised the client on how best to
position their products for optimum sales results.
An Israeli polypropylene film manufacturer wanted to penetrate
the U.S. flexible packaging market with BOPP film produced in
their new, state-of -the-art plant. Using our extensive network
of contacts in the flexible packaging industry, we researched
the U.S. market and provided this client with initial sales leads
to qualified buyers. We also helped them recruit and qualify
candidates for a U.S. based sales manager position.
A U.S. adhesives manufacturer wanted to expand their market
presence into heat sealable adhesives for flexible packaging.
After a thorough analysis of the market, we created a product
development program for the client and a strategy for participation
in the market.
Product Line Reorganization
and Analysis
A major multi-national adhesives manufacturer called on us to
analyze their extensive line of heat sealable adhesives. We reorganized
the product line and recommended elimination of slow selling
products whose functions were duplicated by more popular items.
Product Management
We have managed extensive product lines of solvent and water
based heat seal and protective coatings sold to the flexible
packaging and converting industries. The client realized annual
sales growth objectives of five to eight percent over a five
year period.
Expert Witness
We have provided expert opinion and data analysis in litigation
involving in-mold label substrates and health care packaging
issues.
Technical Process and Product Development
Adhesives and Coatings for Flexible
Packaging
Several clients have benefitted from our many years of experience
developing heat activated, pressure sensitive and laminating
adhesives as well as other protective and functional coatings
for flexible packaging.
Industrial Laminations
We developed a process for manufacturing fire retardant industrial
curtain wall laminations for a major converter of industrial
laminations. This successful project combined our experience
with low pressure laminating techniques and solventless polyurethane
adhesives.
In-Mold Labeling
Ronald Schultz, Principal Consultant for RBS Technologies, Inc.,
has been involved with in- mold labeling since its inception
in the mid-1970's. He developed the original heat seal adhesive
that is still used on the back of in-mold labels today. The definitive
in-mold labeling review article which he authored may be found
in The Wiley Encyclopedia of Packaging Technology, Second
Edition, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1997, pp. 297-298.
Technical Writing and Editing
Our technical writing has an elegance of style and line developed
through 40 years of writing for the chemical process, converting
and packaging industries. We craft technical reports, proposals,
procedural documentation and a wide variety of other written
material concisely and efficiently, avoiding unnecessary verbiage
or hyperbole. Clarity of thought and distillation of complex
ideas into easily understood concepts are the hallmarks of our
work.
